How much time does it take to complete the course?
The Beginning Rider Course is 15 hours and the entire course can
be completed in a single, 2 day weekend. There is 10 hours of on
bike riding instruction and 5 hours of classroom instruction. Both
Saturday and Sunday are split between riding and classroom
sessions.
What do I need to bring with me?
For the riding sessions you are required to have sturdy footwear
that covers the ankle, long sleeved shirt or jacket, long pants,
eye protection (glasses, goggles, sun glasses or face shield), full
finger gloves and helmet. SRT will provide the helmet if you have
not yet purchased one.
Weather may play a part in your riding sessions. There are some
days where it may be very hot, on these days you should take care
to prevent overheating and dehydration. Dress in lighter colors and
drink lots of water. You are encouraged to bring water and light
snacks such as fruit, crackers and energy bars to the range
sessions. During the winter months there is a chance that it will
rain. We will not necessarily cancel a riding session due to rain.
You should be prepared to ride in the rain. Motorcycle specific
rain gear or an equivalent is recommended.

What is the refund policy?
Once a class begins there can be no refund. You have paid for a
specific "seat" in the course if you use it or not, in the same way
you would not be refunded the cost of tickets for a sporting event
or concert. If you do not attend for any reason, or if you are
counseled out of a session for inability to safely perform the
riding exercise, there will be no refund. You may be eligible to
attend a later course on a space available basis. The time frame of
your rescheduled class cannot be guaranteed.
What do I need to know about attendance?
You must be in attendance from start to finish for each riding
and classroom session. There will be no refund if a session is
missed and you will have to reschedule and pay a rescheduling fee
of $125. As with a concert or sporting event all expenses have been
incurred on your behalf. Please be punctual. All sessions start on
time and you cannot be admitted after the class begins. Be careful
scheduling your travel time and arrive 15 minutes before the start
of your session.
Can I use my own motorcycle?
Yes, but only if it is less than a 500cc motorcycle. It must be
street legal with current license and insurance. It must be checked
and approved before class by your Rider Coach. We encourage the use
of the SRT training motorcycles we provide.
Where are the classes held?
The classroom sessions are held in Village 1-01 on the East side
of the campus, immediately adjacent to the Campus Safety Office.
The riding sessions are in Parking Lot 5a near the tennis courts.
Please see the campus map on this website. We will also send you
confirmation material with directions to the classroom and riding
range.
What days of the week are the training sessions?
All sessions are on Saturdays and Sundays. The total course is
15 hours. Both Saturday and Sunday will have 2.5 hours of classroom
and 5 hours of riding. Completion of the course will require a
single weekend.
What are the SRT Rider Coach qualifications?
All of our coaches have motorcycle operation endorsement from
the California Department of Motor Vehicles. All are ceritified by
the California Motorcyclist Program as well as the Motorcycle
Safety Foundation as Rider Coaches. The Rider Coaches have all
successfully completed a 60 hour Rider Coach Training Program. And
all attend yearly professional development courses. They are all
CPR and First Aid certified. Our Rider Coaches have many years of
riding experience and currently own and ride motorcycles.
What do I get for completing the course?
After successful completion of the BRC you will recieve a
completion certificate and a DL 389 which waives the riding portion
of the skills test at the DMV. You do not have to ride a motorcycle
for the DMV. Your completion certificate will qualify you for
reimbursement of some of your rider course tuition from rider's
clubs like the Honda Red Rider Club and the Harley Owner Group. It
will also qualify you for discounts on merchandise and riding gear.
Many insurance companies will discount your motorcycle insurance
for having completed the course.
